DMK chief appealed to his MPs MLAs to contribute their one month salary PM Relief Fund

Chennai: DMK chief Karunanidhi had announced an aid of 25 lakh rupees to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the disaster in Uttarakhand. Karunanidhi had also appealed to the MPs and MLAs of DMK to contribute their salary of a month to the relief fund. DMK has 18 MPs, 7 members in Rajya Sabha and 23 MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He said it was “heartening” to see stranded pilgrims from the state being rescued and brought back by Central and state governments.

Karunanidhi said that the Prime Minister had appealed for contributions from the public on account of the magnitude of the tragedy in Uttarakhand even as the PM had allocated Rs 1000 crore towards relief activities.

Karunanidhi also said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi had also directed her party MPs to donate their one month salary and he also request his party’s MPs and MLA’s to do same in account of relief to those who are still facing the viciousness of nature. Karunanidhi said, “I wish to announce that a sum of Rs 25 lakh will be provided on behalf of DMK to relief fund being collected by the Central government. Besides, I request DMK MPs and MLAs to contribute their one month’s salary.”
