UPA trucks stop at Rishikesh due to lack of diesel

Rishikesh: 100 trucks which are loaded with food supplies, medicines and other material which were sent on Monday are now parked at Rishikesh due to lack of diesel. These trucks were meant thousands of people who were stranded in flash floods in Uttarakhand, sent by UPA government after a huge photo-op. Congress leaders admitted that they have no idea of where the trucks are. These trucks were flagged off by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Party spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said, “I don’t have any information but I know there are youth Congress members in Rudraprayag. Thanks for this information, I am not coordinating but will pass this on to those members.”

The drivers allegedly said that after reaching the state capital of Dehradun, they were asked to drive higher in the mountains to an area named Srinagar. But they are stranded en route with fuel running out.

The drivers also alleged that nobody from the party or the government has contacted them with either assistance or directions.

Drivers also claim that they have no money to pay for meals or fuel. One of them asked, “Should we start selling these items, then.”

The trucks were sent by the Congress after a newspaper report said BJP leader Narendra Modi had pulled “a Rambo act” by flying into Uttarakhand with bureaucrats and evacuating 15,000 tourists from Gujarat. Later on this report was dismissed by BJP.

It is also noticeable that all parties are taking political advantage of both this disaster and the rescue operation of military in Uttarakhand.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi arrived in Uttarakhand. On the other side Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde didn’t permit Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to area affected through flood by saying that visits by VVIPs distract attention from rescue operations. Congress party had differentiated the visit of Rahul Gandhi by saying that He is present “as a citizen” and he is not using state resources to travel Uttarakhand.
