Delhi gangrape case: Supreme Court sends notice to UPA government

daminiNew Delhi: Ahead of the one year anniversary of the infamous Delhi gangrape case, Supreme Court on Monday, Dec 2 sent a notice to UPA government. The notice has been sent to the central government on a petition filed by the victim’s father who urged the court that juvenility of an accused needs to be decided by criminal court, not by juvenile justice board.

The apex court also asked the petitioner to annexe the portion of the statement that implicates the juvenile offender in the case. Supreme Court asked victim’s father to annexe portion which implicates juvenile Delhi gangrape case, which is also known as Nirbhaya case, had stirred the country in 2012.

A 23-year-old paramedical student was raped by six men in a moving Bus in the national capital. Later she was thrown out of the bus. She later succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Singapore. Several protest rallies were organized in Delhi. All six accused including a juvenile were arrested. While one of the prime accused Ram Singh had committed suicide in Tihar jail, other four accused were sentenced to death. However, the juvenile was sentenced three-year imprisonment.
