Delhi Police clueless over Karol Bagh murder case

Delhi Police clueless over Karol Bagh murder case New Delhi: Two days after a 25-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a man in the busy Karol Bagh area on Valentine’s Day evening, the investigators are still unable to identify the accused or the motive behind the gruesome murder.  Though the police have managed to get a hazy picture of one of the accused from closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, there is no breakthrough in the case yet.

The picture of the accused is not clear and we have sent the footage to various laboratories to magnify and clean the image of the accused captured in it, an investigative officer said. The footage was also shown to the family members of the victim. However, they could not identify the accused’s face. The police are questioning her neighbours, gym members – she went to the gym every evening after work and employees at her office.

An MBA degree holder, Simran married Manreet Singh two years ago. Since then they were living at their residence in South Delhi’s Nanakpura. The victim’s husband also works at an IT firm in Noida.

The police confirmed that she was attacked near a relative’s home. The crime scene suggests she might have been killed by a stalker, a police officer said. However, investigators are also not ruling out the involvement of the victim’s family members.

Hailing from Jalandhar, Manreet has come under the police lens as he was the last person to have a phone conversation with Simran. The police have also called Simran’s college friends to help them in the probe and suggest, if possible, whether the crime was carried out by an ex-lover or a hit-man.

The CCTV grab showed that a man on a scooter skids to a halt near Simran. He is seen talking to Simran and soon after attacks her with a meat cleaver. She was attacked twice – once on her arm and then on her chest. It is presumed that the victim died immediately after the injury on her chest,” a police source said, adding that more than one person may be involved in the attack.

The CCTV footage recovered from the Karol Bagh Metro station and its nearby area show Simran getting off the Metro at 7.30 PM. She was barely half a kilometre away from the Metro station and near her aunt’s house when the crime took place.
