New Delhi: Very soon, Delhiites will be able to lodge FIRs of petty crimes like theft and robbery, from the confines of their homes through the internet. An announcement in this regard was made by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi at the 67th Raising Day of Delhi Police today.
A special initiative has been taken through which people will be able to file the first information report (FIR) for crimes such as theft and forgery sitting at home, through the police website. The facility will be launched by February 18/19, he said.
Complaints about lost items could also be launched through the same interface and there will be no need for the victim to come to the Police Station to file the FIR, he said. Bassi also outlined the steps taken to ensure safety of Northeastern people in the capital after the Tania case, mentioning the recently launched ‘Anti-racism Helpline number’.
He also said that a Special cell to deal with the issues of foreigners has been set up and a vigilance unit helpline against corruption has also been set up where a complaint against anyone involved in corrupt practices can be registered.
It was on February 16, 1948 that the first IGP of Delhi was appointed and the total strength of Delhi Police was increased by 1951 to about 8,000 with one Inspector General of Police and eight Superintendents of Police. Presently, the sanctioned strength of Delhi Police is 83,762.
