Indian Mujahideen leader Tehseen Akhtar arrested, says TV channel

Indian Mujahideen leader Tehseen Akhtar arrested, says TV channel New Delhi: Tehseen Akhtar, who is allegedly the chief of banned terrorist group Indian Mujahideen (IM) in India, has been arrested, TV news channels reported on Tuesday.

Akhtar is being questioned by the anti-terrorism branch of the Delhi Police and central intelligence agencies, TV channels reported. Tehseen is allegedly involved in the Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad blasts and security analysts believe his arrest will weaken IM considerably.

Mohammad Zarar Siddibappa alias Yasin Bhatkal, after his arrest on August 29 last year, had told investigators that Tehseen, 23, was the operational India head of IM dealing directly with Karachi-based top IM operative Riyaz Bhatkal.

Akhtar’s arrest comes after police in Rajasthan on Sunday apprehended Pakistan-born bomber Zia-ur-Rahman alias Waqas. The National Investigation Agency has declared a reward of Rs. 10 lakh for information on Tehseen’s whereabouts, originally a resident of Maniarpur village in Samastipur district of Bihar.
