Sonia Gandhi to release election manifesto todayNew Delhi:  The poll manifesto, to be released by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, will also reinforce its commitment to welfare measures reflecting the party’s thrust on inclusive development.

Facing opposition barbs on the issue of corruption, the Congress party is expected to spell out strong measures to tackle the menace in its manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Sonia Gandhi will release the document at a function at the AICC headquarters at around 1 pm in the presence of top party leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Likely focus areas in Congress manifesto
· Job creation – 100 million new jobs for the youth by 2020, focus on private sector
·  Specific measures to check corruption and concrete steps to bring back black money stashed abroad
·  Financial security for the 70 crore people who occupy the layer between middle class and those falling below poverty line
·  Measures to empower women with increased representation in politics
·  Steps on women’s safety like more all women police stations
·  Expanded coverage of subsidised healthcare
·  Legal and judicial reforms
·  Stringent measures to check price rise with focus on ways to check blackmarketing and hoarding

The party’s manifesto has been finalised by a committee is headed by AK Antony. The other members of the committee are P Chidambaram, Sushilkumar Shinde, Anand Sharma, Salman Khurshid, Sandeep Dikshit, Ajit Jogi, Renuka Chowdhary, P L Punia, Mohan Gopal, Jairam Ramesh and Digvijay Singh.
