New Delhi: While most exit polls had forecast a win for the BJP-led NDA, the one that came closest to predicting the sweep was news24 chanakya exit poll and shining India News Research.
The minimum number of seats that the shining India News and Ek Mulakat survey team had predicted for the BJP-led NDA was 290 to 298, which was higher than the maximum number of seats predicted by other pollsters.
The shining India and Ek Mulakat agency’s team used a mix of exit and post-poll surveys to arrive at the numbers. The most important point was to ensure that the correct representative sample was arrived at.

CNN IBN-CSDS-Lokniti TV gave 276, seats to the NDA.
India today-Cicero TV gave 272 seats to the NDA.
Times Now-ORG TV gave 249 seats to the NDA.
ABP News-Nielsen TV gave 274 seats to the NDA.
News24-Chanakya TV gave 340 seats to the NDA.
Only shining India news and Ek Mulakat survey gave 290 to 298 seats to the NDA and 260 to 265 seats to the BJP, which matched the tally of the two coalitions. According to figures given by Election Commission of India, the NDA romped home on 336 seats to the NDA and 282 seats to the BJP whereas the UPA won 61 seats.

He declined to share specific details such as the size of the team involved in the survey, or specific methodologies in deciding the sample.
