New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought a special rehabilitation package from the Centre for the flood-ravaged state.
Pitching for liberal assistance from the Centre, Omar told the Prime Minister that such a package was necessary for putting life back on rails in the state. Thanking the Prime Minister for timely assistance by way of rescue efforts and immediate relief to the affected people, Omar told Modi that the state was looking upto the Centre “in this hour of grave crisis
We look up to you in this hour of grave crisis for all the required support in the second phase of calamity management in terms of rehabilitation of the affected families both in terms of housing and livelihood besides permanent restoration of public assets,” Omar was quoted in an official release as having told the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister said agriculture and horticulture losses also need to be compensated fully apart from providing financial support to business units affected by the calamity. All these elements will need to be factored into a ‘Special Rehabilitation Package’ which also aims at addressing the livelihood concerns of a large number of population devastated by the tragedy, he said.
Among other things, the Chief Minister also discussed Rs 2,200-crore Flood Threat Management Programme and requested for approval at the earliest.The Chief Minister appreciated the role played by army, IAF and NDRF in aid of the civil authorities making the rescue efforts result-oriented.
