NDRF ready to face ‘Nilofar’, Gujarat on high alert

New Delhi: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Tuesday that it has deployed rescue and rehabilitation teams on various locations of Gujarat coast to face the cyclone ‘Nilofar’.

An official release claimed that NDRF teams are being deployed in vulnerable areas to mitigate the impact of the cyclonic storm.

It said, “The National Disaster Response Force is fully geared up for rescue operations in the wake of cyclonic storm ‘Nilofar’ in Arabian Sea along Gujarat coast.”

It had been expected that cyclone ‘Nilofar’ which developed over the Arabian Sea is likely to make landfall in Kutch district of Gujarat Friday, packing winds of 100-110 kmph.

The release also claimed that NDRF has alerted its three battalions situated at Vadodara (Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra) and Bathinda (Punjab).

Apart from this, seven rescue and relief teams are pre-positioned at Gandhidham, Dwarka, Porbandar, Veeraval, Rajkot and two teams at Bhuj in Gujarat.

Nine other NDRF teams are on standby and awaiting deployment instructions.
