Supreme Court suspends defamation proceedings against BJP leaderNew Delhi: The proceeding of defamation case against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy had been suspended by Supreme Court on Thursday. The apex court had suspended proceeding in five cases initiated by the Tamil Nadu government against him for making critical observations against former chief minister Jayalalithaa.

The bench of apex court had been headed by Justice Dipak Misra. While suspending defamation proceedings before a Chennai court, it also issued notice to the central government, the Tamil Nadu government and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa. The notices are returnable in six weeks.
