Parties of #TamilNadu upset over #Bollywood #Dabangg star #SalmanKhan campaigns for #SriLankan #President #Mahinda #RajapaksaChennai: Several political parties of Tamil Nadu ire after Dabangg star of Bollywood Salman Khan had agreed to campaign for the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa in elections which are to be held in Lanka next month.

On the invitation letter of son of Rajapaksa, Namal, Salman Khan accompanied his Sri Lankan co-star Jacqueline Fernandez to Colombo to campaign for him.

Vaiko of MDMK said, “He is a betrayer.” MDMK is part of the BJP-led ruling NDA.

Tamil parties across the board, accuse Mr Rajapaksa of orchestrating war crimes in his country.

TKS Elangovan of DMK said, “Salman Khan going to campaign for Rajapaksa is highly condemnable.”

This is reportedly the first time that a Bollywood actor has been roped in for a poll campaign in Sri Lanka.

Tamil Nadu parties allege that civilian casualties and human rights violations against Tamils peaked in 2009 during the last leg of the war against the LTTE with Mr Rajapaksa in charge.

Notify that Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa stayed away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony because Rajapaksa was invited.

She, on the invitation of President of Sri Lanka said that it had “deeply upset the people of Tamil Nadu and wounded their sentiments.”
