#Uber cab rape case: Govt formulates new #rules for radio taxis in #Delhi Delhi: In the aftermath of the Uber cab rape case in the national capital, Delhi government has come up with a new set of rules for the radio taxis in the city. As per a Transport Department statement, the licensee has to maintain minimum fleet of 200 radio taxis either owned or through an agreement with individual taxi permits holders, reported.

The statement also said that Radio Taxi should be fitted with GPS and GPRS based tracking device, printer and display panel showing path traversed and total distance covered. The new taxi rules also states that cab service provider should maintain a web-portal containing all details of its ownership, registered address, services offered, fare structure, insurance liabilities, control room number, name and contact details of a duly appointed grievance redressed officer.

Transport helpline number was also given for the benefit of the people. The department said that number 42400400 along with police help line number 1095 would be prominently displayed inside and outside radio taxis. The cab service provider will have to ensure the facility of a panic button in the radio taxi so that in case of any distress, the signal is transmitted to the their control centre and therefrom, to the nearest police station or the police control room.

Radio taxi provider should have a registered office in the city and details of it’s headquarter including telephone number, e-mail ID will have to be provided by them to the transport department,” government also said. Besides, the colour of the radio taxi should be white, with a colored strip on both sides of the taxi prominently displaying the name of the licensee,” the transport department said.

It also said that licensee’s internet-enabled application or digital platform to be accessed by the passenger should display the photo of the radio taxi driver, name, badge number, license number and mobile number of the driver. And a photo of the radio taxi with registration number should also be displayed on licensee’s internet enabled application.

The new rules will also be applicable to all cabs plying in the national capital. The government’s move comes after several loopholes in cab operations emerged after the Uber rape case. If Uber fulfills all the conditions of the new rule, it too can make a comeback, a senior official of the transport department said. Radio taxi having an NCR permit will only be allowed to operate in the capital. Those having the all India permit will not be allowed to play in the city.

However, transport department has given relaxation to the cab provider by reducing the minimum fleet of radio taxis to 200 radio taxis, which earlier was 500, and they have to ensure availability of adequate parking space for all taxis.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Kumar Malik had then fixed the over 100-page charge sheet for consideration on January 2 and also extended the judicial custody of the driver till then. Yadav, who was driving the cab, had allegedly raped the woman on the night of December 5 when the victim, who works for a finance company in Gurgaon, was headed back to her home in north Delhi’s Inderlok area. He was arrested on December 7 from Mathura in a joint operation by Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police and produced before the court on December 8.
