#Kathua   Five killed in #militant #attack on #Jammu & #Kashmir #Rajbagh  police station

#Jammu : #Kathua   Three security personnel, a civilian, and two #militants were killed in a #Fidayeen attack on Raj Bagh Police station in #Kathua district of #Jammu on Friday morning. The gunfight lasted for five hours and according to police sources, nine security personnel were also injured in the attack.

Senior Police officials says  that both the militants who had stormed into the #Rajbagh police station in Kathua, around 16 kms from the International Border (IB) between India and #Pakistan in #Jammu, early in the morning on Friday were killed at around 11.30 in the day.
“The gunfight is over and we are mopping up things at the site now,” Director General of J-K Police, K #Rajendra, says . “A police constable, two #CRPF personnel and a civilian were killed in the gun-battle besides the two #militants.”

According to police sources in #Kathua, at the time of the attack six policemen were inside the police station whose first floor houses a unit of #CRPF.

“The militants first killed the police constable posted as a sentry outside and then two of the CRPF people were killed,” a senior police official posted in Kathua told  “Nine security personnel have been wounded in the attack.”

Police sources also said that the Raj Bagh police station has been cordoned off and a cordon and search operation is being conducted by the Armed forces.

This is the first major militant strike in the region since the new #PDP-#BJP coalition government came to #power.

“These Fidayeen will have walked across the border last night & launched their attack this morning which is the past pattern as well,” former Chief Minister #OmarAbdullah tweeted. “My thoughts are with those brave security personnel dealing with the #Fidayeen attack in Kathua town of Jammu this morning.”
