PM Modi tweeted on Friday evening, “Will be in Mumbai tomorrow where I will launch the #makeinindia week, an effort to provide greater impetus to @makeinindia initiative.”
Make in India is the Modi government’s flagship initiative, launched by Mr Modi last year in September, to encourage international companies to manufacture their goods in India.
After the initiative was launched last year, India surpassed China and the US as the top destination for Foreign Direct Investment.
The Prime Minister will first inaugurate the Bombay Art Society’s new building complex and also share his “thoughts at the programme,” he said in another tweet. After that, he will inaugurate the ‘Make in India’ centre at the Bandra Kurla complex.
Mr Modi will walk through the centre, accompanied by the prime ministers of Sweden and Finland, and other senior dignitaries from India and abroad.
He will formally launch the ‘Make in India’ week at an event later at Worli. There, he will address a gathering of senior leaders and captains of industry from both India and abroad.
The Make in India week, in the Prime Minister’s own words, “celebrates the achievements of the manufacturing sector and offers insights into the investment opportunities in India.”
The Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with senior foreign leaders from different countries during the week.
‘Make in India’ Week aims at promoting India as the preferred manufacturing destination, globally. Over the course of a week, it will offer access and opportunities to connect with Indian and global industry leaders and central and state governments.
The week is also likely to see its share of politics with the BJP’s ally the Shiv Sena saying on Friday that its chief Uddhav Thackeray has not been invited for a dinner on Saturday that PM #NarendraModi   is to preside over.
