BJP demands white paper on education.NewDelhi: Claiming that steps taken by Delhi government to improve the quality of education are “nothing more than hogwash,” the leader of opposition Vijender Gupta said on Sunday that the number of students of classes X and XII enrolled in Delhi schools has declined.

Demanding a white paper on education from Delhi government, Gupta talked about the “empty claims of success” made by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia regarding creating an environment conducive to education in schools. “The truth, however, is that since the past two-and-a-half years of AAP government in power, the condition of government schools has been continuously deteriorating.”

Gupta cited the data released by the education department under Delhi government. It says that in 2013-14, the number of Class XII students who appeared for the board exams was 1,66,257, which came down to 1,21,681 in the year 2016-17. Similarly, number of students sitting for Class X was 1,80,203 in 2013-14 which came down to 1,55,263 in 2016-17.
He asked why is there a “continuous decline in the number of students enrolled,” despite claims made by Sisodia of doubling the education budget and building thousands of rooms. Gupta also stated that while the AAP government had promised to open 500 new schools, but even after 30 months in power not a single school has been commissioned.
