Govt willing, LG office stalls projects: AAP.

Govt willing, LG office stalls projects: AAP.NewDelhi: AAP government on Wednesday claimed that it has no paucity of funds for undertaking welfare initiatives and blamed “LG’s interference” for lack of execution of initiatives. “Each time the government attempts to spend taxpayers money for people-centric policies, the LG office attempts to stall the progress,” AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said.

Bharadwaj clarified the party’s position on the reports that states that the government had failed to specify utilisation of Rs 787 crore greencess earned through the Environmental Compensation Charge (ECC) in 2017. “This is a brazen misrepresentation of facts. Never has the Delhi government claimed that it has lack of funds for undertaking any activity in the interest of people. The government allocates enough funds for schemes, but they are stalled for political reasons by the office of LG,” he alleged.

For the lack of new buses in the city, Bharadwaj also blamed LG and DDA. “For expanding Delhi’s public transport network, the government plays its part in ordering new buses, but LG and DDA refuse to allot land for building depots. The government has already made a payment of Rs 90 crore to DDA, but it has not yet alloted land,” he said.

Bharadwaj pinned hope on Supreme Court’s constitution bench hearing on the division of powers between the Centre and the Delhi government.
