BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Police has denied reports of molestation in the city on New Year’s eve. The clarification comes after there were reports that women were seen crying at the same spot from where ‘mass molestation’ was reported last year.
However, CCTV footage from Brigade Road and MG Road showed that no such incident took place this year.
“There have been no cases of molestation, 1300 traffic violators were booked,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said.
Bengaluru Police was on high alert on Sunday night to avert any untoward incident. Nearly 15,000 police personnel including women constables were deployed across the city to keep an eye on New Year revellers.
An additional 500 CCTVs were installed across the city for better surveillance. Police had stated that those creating nuisance in public places like pubs, bars, restaurants and streets will be immediately taken into custody.
There were about 2,000 cops stationed on Brigade Road, Church Street and MG Road in the city`s central business district, popular for restaurants, pubs and shopping.
The police had also used drones to track the movement of vehicles and revellers, bomb and dog squads across the city to maintain law and order during the night-long bash.
