Parents locked me in a room, forcing me to get married, alleges national-level kabaddi player.ROHTAK: A national-level woman Kabaddi player has alleged that her parents are forcing her to get married and even went to the extent of locking her up in a room for days.

The Rohtak-based player has now approached Haryana Women’s Commission to register a case against her parents. She has also written a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the Director General of Police on the matter.

Hailing from a small village in Rohtak, the player claims to have faced several hardships in her sports career. Overcoming all, she went on to represent Haryana at the national level. 

In 2017, the parents reportedly took the player to Karnal and fixed her marriage to an older man. On refusing to agree to their wishes, the Kabaddi player was locked up in her room for days. She somehow managed to escape and returned to Rohtak, where she continued to study and play Kabaddi. 

However, a few days ago, her father came to Rohtak along with others, to take her back. 

She somehow managed to escape but claims her life is in danger. 

“I want to continue with studies and sports,” said the player.

Haryana is notorious for its skewed sex ratio and atrocities against women.

Last year, for the first time in the history of the state, the sex ratio in the state touched the 950 mark. 

According to 2011 census data, the had the lowest sex ratio in the country with just 830 females for every 1000 males.
