After Raj Thackeray's warning to mosques, MNS workers play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeaker outside office

Thane: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers played Hanuman Chalisa in front of the party office in Kalyan town of Maharashtra’s Thane district on Sunday. The incident occurred a day after Raj Thackeray asked the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to immediately ban loudspeakers at mosques or Hanuman Chalisa will be played at double volume near the mosques. He made the remarks while addressing the Gudhi Padwa rally of his party in Mumbai on April 2.

“Why loudspeakers in mosques are played at such high volume? If this is not stopped, there will be speakers outside mosques playing Hanuman Chalisa at higher volume,” MNS chief Raj Thackeray said.

The MNS workers assembled outside the party’s office at Sai Chowk in Kalyan on Sunday and played Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers loudly. The party workers also raised ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan.

Raj Thackeray’s call to lower the volumes of loudspear at mosques was criticised by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, NCP chief Pawar, Supriya Sule, Congress’ Nana Patole, Ashok Chavan, Atul Londhe, ex-Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.

Taking aim at Raj Thackeray, Raut said that the law of the land prevails in Maharashtra and the state Home Minister will do everything as per the law.

“Raj Thackeray was talking about taking down the loudspeakers installed in mosques yesterday. First, see in which all BJP ruled states Azaan has been stopped, loudspeakers removed from mosques. This is Maharashtra, where law of the land is followed,” Raut said.

The Sena leader alleged that Raj Thackeray’s demand of shutting down of loudspeakers in mosques was scripted and sponsored by BJP.
