Massive fire outbreak at Delhi's School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) near ITO; campus evacuated

A huge fire broke out at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) building premises situated in the ITO locality of Delhi early on Monday. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) came into action upon receiving an emergency call at 9:37 am as smoke was observed coming out of the building’s second floor.

A total of eight fire tenders were dispatched quickly to control the situation. In addition, through the coordinated efforts of emergency crews, the fire was extinguished without any casualties or injuries.

Fire accidents spur series of incidents in national capital region

The fire accident involving the School of Planning and Architecture is part of a rising trend witnessed in the past week in Delhi-NCR. Earlier in the day, an additional fire accident was reported from Paying Guest (PG) hostel premises located in the Mukherjee Nagar locality of North Delhi.

Early investigation revealed that a short circuit led to this outbreak of fire. In response, residents were evacuated quickly from the premises without sustaining any injury.

Moreover, there was a big fire outbreak at a mobile phone storage place in the Mahipalpur area of Southwest Delhi on the previous Saturday evening. This fire broke out on the premises situated at Street Number 12 of Mahipalpur and required fourteen fire engines to be called upon to tackle this dangerous fire threat before it spread to other nearby houses.

Fire outbreaks lead to increased scrutiny of air conditioners

The continuous occurrence of fire-related incidents is bringing attention towards air conditioners, as people see them as the main cause of sudden explosions of fire during the height of summer.

In a shocking recent development, an AC unit at the home of a retired Indian Administrative Service officer in the Hauz Khas region of South Delhi suddenly exploded, resulting in a major blaze that caused extensive injuries to the victim, who died during his hospitalisation.

This comes after a deadly explosion of an AC unit in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, that led to a devastating blaze and caused deaths of nine people in the building. The administration and fire department officials have issued warnings to check such AC units and all high-load electrical appliances.
