#NewDelhi : #SiliconValley #Google Inc CEO Sundar Pichai, on his first visit to India since being appointed to that position, announced on Wednesday that the Silicon Valley giant plans to reach out to over two million small businesses, while pushing for its Project Loon to connect the countryside,
US-based Google is bullish about the Indian market, which it called among its most important. It said that India will have more Android users that the US by 2016.
“We will build new campus, ramp up engineering presence in Hyderabad to make products for India; and increase hiring in Bengaluru, Pichai told.
The company is also partnering with the National Skill Development Council to train 2 million developers in India.
In order to fulfill India’digital ambitions, Google plans to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to 100 railway stations.
“We will be ready to provide free Wi-Fi services at 100 railway stations in India by the end of 2016,”Pichai added.
This is Chennai-born Pichai’s first visit to India in fact his first overseas trip after he took over as CEO of the restructured Google in August.
Pichai, on his two-day India trip also said that Google’s rural internet program – Project Loon – will move from pilot to full scale program to cover 300,000 villages in India.
