#Delhi : The WFI is finding it tough to decide who to send for Rio Olympics in the 74-kg category – Narsingh Yadav or Sushil Kumar. The row between Indian wrestlers Narsingh Pancham Yadav and Sushil Kumar over the 74-kg Rio Olympic quota is threatening to take a nasty turn with the Hindustan Times reporting that Narsingh could be attacked.
While Sushil is demanding trial to decide India’s representation, Narsingh, who won the quota last year at the world championships, is adamant that he should go to Rio and that there should be no trials.
Sushil then moved the High Court in the issue; however, the court said the matter should be resolved by the wrestling federation of India (WFI). The next hearing is on May 27.
According to HT, though, Haryana Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has claimed that Narsingh faces threat at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) centre in Sonepat.
The newspaper report claims that CID officials have visited the SAI centre twice this week, and the Haryana Police also made a round on Thursday. The authorities have been put on alert about some outsiders attempting to attack Narsingh.
A request made to SAI Director General, Injeti Srinivas, to transfer Narsingh to another training venue has also reportedly been turned down, but the SAI DG is in touch with police.
I am aware of the report, but I don’t think anyone will deliberately hurt me. We are like brothers so I am not bothered, Narsingh told HT.
The wrestler is employed as the deputy superintendent of police in Maharashtra.
Narsingh’s personal coach Jagmal Singh told the newspaper that he will write to the WFI on the matter.
“We have to apprise the federation of this situation. We will write to it possibly by Friday,” Jagmal Singh said.
