#Lucknow : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to decide on its chief ministerial face for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections. BJP president Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the party plans to contest the elections due in first half of 2017 leveraging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity.
Targeting the Uttar Pradesh government of Akhilesh Yadav over Mathura violence, Shah called the clashes a matter of grave concern.
He said the BJP will launch agitation against encroachment of land belonging to the government and poor.
“This incident has created shock waves across the nation. Such a thing has never happened. Two brave officer were killed but the government is least bothered. The state government is insensitive,” he said.
He accused the UP government of creating roadblocks in the delivery of Centre’s welfare programmes like Kisan Fasal Bima Yojana. “Due to political reasons the UP government is not implementing Centre’s schemes. Therefore, the state lacks development. The state is deprived of good work the Modi government is doing,” the BJP chief said.
BJP national vice-president Om Prakash Mathur had on June 3 said that the party may decide on the CM face at its national executive which is being held in Allahabad from June 11-13.
BJP leaders have been claiming that the party will repeat its superlative performance of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections when it contested 78 out of 80 seats in the state and won 71.
UP will witness a multi-cornered election with the ruling Samajwadi Party, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress locked in a fierce contest.
