Sensex hits fresh life-time high of 32,131.92; Nifty scales new peak of 9,920.30.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in August gained Rs 33, or 0.12 percent, to Rs 28,029 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, gold was trading higher 0.17 percent at USD 1,230.78 an ounce in Singapore.
The rupee strengthened 11 paise to 64.34 against the US dollar riding on higher foreign funds inflows.
Shares of Wipro (up 3.029 percent) emerged as the top gainer followed by infosys (up 1.57 percent), Adani Ports (up 1.41 percent), Tata Motors (up 1.06 percent) and Vedanta Limited (up 1.05 percent) on NSE.
However, GAIL (down 1.96 percent), ITC (down 1.82 percent), Aurobindo Pharma (down 1.43 percent), IndusInd Bank (down 0.81 percent) and Bank of Baroda (down 0.73 percent) were among top losers.
Asian stocks mostly rose today, spurred by record high closes for the Dow and S&P 500 on bets that the Federal Reserve`s policy will remain accommodative following lacklustre US data, which sent the dollar reeling to a 10-month low.
Chinese stocks fell over 2 percent in early trade but recouped some of the losses after data showed the economy grew at a slightly faster than expected pace of 6.9 percent in the second quarter thanks to robust industrial output and retail sales.
The 50-share NSE Nifty too traded 27.10 points or 0.27 percent up at 9,913.45 after making a high and low of 9,914 and 9,899.45 in intra-day trade. It opened at 9,908.15 against its previous close of 9,886.35.
The BSE Sensex last quoted 68.89 points or 0.22 percent higher at 32,089.64 after moving in range of 32,107.92- 32053.98. It opened at 32,053.98 against its previous close of 32,020.75.
