New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today granted bail to former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who is accused of abetting the suicide of an air hostess employed with his aviation company in 2012.
The bail to the 48-year-old accused has been granted against two sureties of Rs. 5 lakh each and a personal bond of Rs. 5 lakh. Kanda has also been asked to submit his passport.
Geetika Sharma, working with Kanda’s MDLR Airlines, was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her Ashok Vihar residence in northwest Delhi. In her suicide note, the 23-year-old had said she was ending her life due to “harassment” by Mr Kanda and his close aide, Aruna Chadha.
Chadha was arrested on August 8, 2012. Kanda surrendered before the police ten days later. The High Court granted bail to Chadha last month.
Kanda and Chadha have been charged with abetment of suicide, criminal conspiracy, forgery and offences under the IT Act for hacking computers and sending offensive or false messages. Both the accused have denied the allegations.
