Is Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa now a PM aspirant?Chennai:  With barely five months to go for the general elections in 2014, the Congress is not alone at the drawing board. It seems Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa wants to shift base from Chennai’s Fort St. George to the Red Fort in Delhi.

Her party, the AIADMK’s General Council today asked its cadre to win all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, so that the party could fast-track its way to Delhi. After the meet, Jayalalithaa said the media, the party cadre have expressed their desire and the rest have been clearly spelt out. I’ve nothing to add.

A woman party worker said she is sure that If Amma becomes the prime minister the entire country would brighten”. Another woman said, “If Amma is the Prime Minister, India would become a super power, just like America.
Jayalalithaa’s Prime Ministerial aspiration was evident quite early when she was part of the Third Front, joining hands with Samajwadi Party’s Mulayan Singh Yadav, Telugu Desam Party’s Chandrababu Naidu and Left parties.

For 2014, she has not made up her mind on the alliance yet. Actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK with who she won a thumping majority has already snapped ties. The BJP, which is firmly backing Narendra Modi for PM, will also be wary of getting another PM aspirant into its fold.

In the past, India has had surprise Prime Ministers like IK Gujaral and Deve Gowda. Jayalalithaa’s Prime Ministerial ambition would depend on her party’s performance in the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry.
