New Delhi: The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the Centre government on the Aam Aadmi Party’s challenge to not dissolve the Delhi assembly and keep it in suspended animation.
The court said it will examine the constitutional validity of such a decision and whether it was required to furnish reasons for not dissolving the assembly.
A bench of Justice RM Lodha sought a reply from the Centre within weeks.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the AAP, had said the election in Delhi must be held with the general elections since there was no possibility of any alternative government in Delhi.
The petition alleged that President’s rule in Delhi had been imposed to protect former CM Sheila Dikshit from corruption charges.
It said the order of President’s rule was with a motive to frustrate the ongoing investigation in corruption cases in which FIRs had been lodged by the Arvind Kejriwal government.
