The issue of dividation of Andhra Pradesh and formation of Telangana as new state on December 9, 2009 on the birthday of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and UPA government made a midnight announcement of initiating the process for the formation of Telangana. It had to withdraw the move following the backlash in Seemandhra.

But on Tuesday, when the Lok Sabha took up the Telangana bill for discussion, Gandhi was at the forefront to see that the process of forming the country’s 29th state moved a step closer to the conclusion.

It was also a promise she had made at a public meeting in Karimnagar district during an election campaign in 2004.

Gandhi had made it abundantly clear to her party’s floor managers in past few days that she wanted the bill to be passed in Parliament at any cost.

Notify that Sonia Gandhi did not think twice while expelling her six party MPs from Seeamdnhra for their attempts to stall the bill in the Lok Sabha. The division of state had been opposed by MPS.

Gandhi met BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu in the Central Hall of Parliament on Monday and sought his party’s support for the passage of the bill.

Meanwhile the live telecast of the Lok Sabha proceedings was disrupted Tuesday soon after the house started discussing the bill to create a separate Telangana state. While a parliament official said it was due to a “technical problem”, the opposition termed it a planned “tactical glitch”.

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said on micro blogging site Twitter, “They say the blackout of Lok Sabha was due to a ‘technical glitch’. No. It was a ‘tactical glitch’.”

She said, “We strongly condemn the blackout of the proceedings of Lok Sabha. It was done without our knowledge.”

Lok Sabha secretariat also refused to provide recordings of the debate, said the Bharatiya Janata Party leader.

She said, “I am sorry to inform that the Lok Sabha secretariat is not providing us the audio or video recording of my today’s speech on Telangana bill. I will raise this matter with the speaker tomorrow (Wednesday).”

The disruption of live telecast raised many eyebrows as there was intense curiosity about the proceedings on the bill that was being firmly opposed by a number of MPs from the Seemandhra region.

Notify that the live telecast on Lok Sabha TV channel abruptly went off the screen minutes after the house met at 3 p.m. to discuss the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2014.

A few minutes later, the channel briefly put out a message that live telecast would resume shortly but that did not happen.

Later, TV news channels ran news of the proceedings on their tickers.

S. Bal Shekar, Secretary General of Lok Sabha said the proceedings of the afternoon session could not be telecast due to a “technical problem”.

Shekar said, “There was a technical problem. They are attending to it.” He also added that he has asked for a report on the issue.

He agreed that it was a coincidence that disruption in live telecast occurred when the house took up the discussion on the crucial bill.

YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that the live telecast “was cut off”.

Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen MP Asaduddin Owaisi also voiced a similar protest.

Owaisi said, “Why is the government embarrassed? People have a right to see. They have a right to know.”
