MS Dhoni offers to step down CSK captaincy

MS Dhoni offers to step down CSK captaincyNew Delhi: Indian captain MS Dhoni has offered to step down as the skipper of the Indian Premier League`s (IPL) Chennai franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after being allegedly involved in the IPL fixing case.

According to media reports, two days back Dhoni had expressed his disappointment and annoyance over his name being dragged into the Indian Premier League spot-fixing controversy.

Dhoni has been leading the Chennai franchise since the inception of the IPL and under his captaincy the team lifted two back-to-back titles. CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the two teams under scrutiny.

On top of it, senior counsel Harish Salve on Thursday accused Dhoni of being “guilty of corrupt practice” by lying before the Mudgal Committee on the role of the BCCI president`s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in Chennai Super Kings.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday handed over the reins of BCCI to former player Sunil Gavaskar during IPL 7 and did not bar Srinivasan-promoted Chennai Superkings and Rajasthan Royals from participating in the tournament.

Taking the cricket board out of incumbent Srinivasan`s hands, the Court directed that the senior most vice president of the Board, Shivlal Yadav, will be looking after the affairs of BCCI.

A bench of Justices AK Patnaik and FM Ibrahim Kalifulla, however, had refused to pass order in this regard allowing them to play the matches along with six other teams in the tournament beginning April 16 in Dubai.
