Main accused Pappu Yadav arrested in Badaun gang-rape case Lucknow: On a day when the Allahabad High Court is due to hear a PIL on Badaun gang-rape and murder case, the Special Task Force on today arrested Pappu Yadav, the main accused in the badaun gang-rape case.

According to report, PAPU Yadav has now been taken into police custody after a medical test was conducted on him and The STF of the UP police will interrogate him for more leads in the case.

The court’s vacation bench, comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Rajan Roy, fixed the date for the hearing today on the PIL filed by NGO ‘We the People’ through its general secretary Prince Lenin.

Acting on the earlier directive of the court, the Uttar Pradesh government had submitted the copy of the notification recommending CBI probe into the incident through Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal.

Bodies of the two cousins, aged 14 and 15 years, were found hanging with a tree in Katra Sadatganj village last month, triggering nationwide outrage.  A case was lodged against seven persons, including two policemen, in this regard of whom five had been arrested.

The recommendation from the central government came following a high-level discussion with the state Home department and the DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) secretary on the case to being handed over to the CBI.

In Badaun incident, the family members are demanding a CBI inquiry. Today I talked to secretary DoPT and have got a positive response. We have already written a letter recommending probe,” UP Principal Secretary (Home) Deepak Singh Singhal said.
