UP Government transfer IG STF, 5 district police chiefs to continue damage-controlLUCKNOW: The state government of Uttar Pradesh had transferred inspector general of police (STF) Ashish Gupta, along with police chiefs of five western UP districts late on Thursday night for the sake of damage-control in state.

While the police chiefs were transferred following a review meeting of principal secretary (home) Deepak Singhal and director general of police (DGP) AL Banerjee in Meerut and Moradabad divisions on Thursday, the transfer order of IG Ashish Gupta came from the highest level.

Sujeet Kumar Pandey has replaced Gupta, who has been put on the waiting list. Pandey has returned to his parent cadre recently after his Central deputation. Gupta was in news recently for dismissing alarm over spurt in cases of rape in UP saying 10 rape cases on an average were reported from the state daily and this crime rate was lower than of many other states.

The five district police chiefs shunted out include Moradabad SSP Ashok Kumar, Saharanpur SSP Manoj Kumar, Auraiyya SP Waseem Ahmed, Bijnore SP Anees Ansari and Hapur SP Mahendra Pal Singh.

The two top officials also removed additional SP (Crime) Shakeeluzzama and SP Rural Asharam Yadav as government was unhappy with the functioning of a couple of officers in Aligarh.

Singhal and Banerjee met a delegation of locals from Meerut during their visit to Meerut and Moradabad who informed the duo about police laxity in probing the murder of a jeweller killed on January 27.
