Fireman’s family denied taking his body without written assurance of compensationMumbai: The family of fireman who died in the massive fire in the commercial building in Mumbai of Friday had denied taking his body without written assurance of compensation by government.

The wife of fireman, Shubhangi said, “I want a written assurance from the government that the compensation will be given to us. I want to secure the lives of my children. My husband was thrown into the fire and left to die.”

She claimed, “They don’t even have proper fire suits. I want proper investigation into the case.”

Notified that one firefighter had lost his life and six others were seriously injured in the massive fire that took place on the 22nd floor of the Lotus Business Centre building.

Safety norms were flouted in the building which led to several firemen being trapped in the building, claimed fire officials. They called Navy and Coast Guard helicopters to rescue firemen who were trapped in the building.

Regional Command Director fire services SH Nesarikar said, “It was a difficult task as 33 of my men got stuck when the fire reignited. They were coming down when this happened. Glass facade generally should have some openings which this building did not have. Smoke wasn’t coming out. The staircase was also blocked. Movement got restricted.”
