Militants shot dead 16-year-old girl shot in front of parent in AssamChirang: Members of the militant-outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) had shot dead a 16-year old girl in front of her parent in Chirang district of Assam. The militants had pretext girl as a police informer.

The incident took place on August 21 in a remote village of the district.

The body of the girl was retrieved by police at least 24 hours after her gruesome murder, said sources.

State officials have assured that an inquiry would be initiated in the case and the accused would be brought to book.

The Assam government has also promised that it will institute a bravery award in memory of the girl.

Rs 20 lakh had been announced by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as ex-gratia for the slain girl’s family.

An official statement stated, “Our Government will perpetuate the hallowed memory of the little brave girl who defied the dictates of the killers. Her valour and sacrifice will continue to inspire and motivate the young generation for years to come.”
