Centre said it will take at least 18 years to clean the GangaNew Delhi: Central Government said to Supreme Court that it will take at least 18 years to clean the Ganga and involves investment of thousands of crore.

Notify that the first target to clean the Ganga is to achieve total sanitation including water waste treatment and solid waste management. National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had submitted that it has identified around 118 towns situated on the bank of river Ganga.

The affidavit which had been filed by Centre in Supreme Court claimed that the action plan envisages phase wise timeline in terms of short term- a period of three years, medium term – a period of next five years and long term- a period of next ten years and more in order to ensure rejuvenation of the Ganga.
