Protesters block railway tracks, demand ban on cow slaughter in PunjabPhagwara: Protesters had blocked railway tracks and demand for ban on cow slaughter on Wednesday. The Amritsar-Mumbai Express had been delayed by over an hour due to protest.

The protesters included members of Shiv Sena were unhappy over the cases of cow slaughter in some part of Punjab. It is particularly in Malerkotla. The protestors sang religious songs (bhajans) and raised slogans against government of Punjab.

It was only after Phagwara SP Gursevak Singh Brar intervened with the protesters that they agreed to lift the dharna and allowed the train to proceed.

The protest had been led by Sena state vice president Rajesh Palta. The protesters demanded a ban on cow slaughter and the closure of abattoirs. They also called for the arrest of all the culprits behind a recent cow slaughter incident in Malerkotla.
