New Delhi: Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India had won the online readers’ poll of TIME magazine on Monday but had lost the title of “Person of the Year”.
TIME magazine had announced the name of Indian PM Modi on its #Twitter handle, stating he won the readers’ poll.
Meanwhile the editors of TIME had narrowed their list from 50 global leaders and CEOs to eight individuals whose names were announced on Monday.
Editors had not listed Modi in the list of eight finalists selected by TIME magazine for its annual ‘#PersonoftheYear’ title.
The name of eight finalist which had been enlisted are: #Alibaba group head #Jack #Ma, #Ebola #caregivers, #Russian #President #Vladimir #Putin, #Apple #CEO #Tim #Cook, #Fergusan #protesters, singer #Taylor #Swift, #National #Football #League commissioner #Roger Stokoe #Goodell and the #Kurdish politician who has led the #Iraqi-Kurdistan region since 2005 #Masoud #Barzani.
The TIME’s editors will choose the Person of the Year and would announce on December 10.
The annual honour, bestowed by the magazine since 1927, goes to the person who “most influenced the news” during the year “for better or worse.”
Now criticism had been started for the editor’s panel as they didn’t short listed Prime Minister Narendra Modi even when he had won the online readers’ poll of TIME magazine. Media is now raising their eye-brows over the poll and asked if editors have to decide the winner then what the need of online poll was. Some people and political leaders on anonymity of their name said it shows the biased nature of TIME and it also suspicious over the fixing of distribution of award.
Notify that PM Modi won with 16.2 percent of the vote, while Ferguson protesters secured 9.2 percent and #Wong got 7 percent. 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner and UK-based teenage Pakistani human rights activist #MalalaYousafzai, Russian President Vladimir Putin, #U.S. #President #Barack #Obama and German Chancellor #AngelaMerkel were far behind Modi with less than 5 percent of the votes.
