#RailBudget2016  Railway Minister  Suresh Prabhu targets operating ratio of 92% for FY17#NewDelhi:  Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in his second Railway Budget speech said that the institution will aim for an operation ratio of 92% for the financial year 2016-2017.

“A saving of Rs 8,720 crore for budget estimates of last year will be effected this year,” Railway Minister Suresh  Prabhu said.

Stressing on the need for constant innovation, Suresh  Prabhu said, “We need to reimagine the conventional ways of solving things. We plan to do this by drawing upon our inherent strengths.”

“This budget will document the transformation of railways. This is not my Budget alone, it represents the aspirations of every member of the railway family and common man,” he said.

Prabhu started his second Railway Budget speech by saying that his aim is to fulfill PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Railways being a backbone and lifeline for India. “This Budget owes its vision to that of PM Modi. We want to improve quality of customer experience, create jobs,” Prabhu said.

Ahead of the Railway Budget, Prabhu had said, “The Rail Budget we have prepared is in the interest of the nation and railways. It will cater to the needs of all satisfactorily as a lot of effort has gone into its preparation.”

Nearly 1,000 railway stations across the country have been developed as ‘Adarsh’ stations having facilities such as toilets, drinking water, catering services and waiting rooms, Suresh  Prabhu had told Lok Sabha earlier this week. “Development of stations under ‘Adarsh’ station scheme was started in 2009-10. 1,052 stations were identified under ‘Adarsh’ station scheme and out of which, 946 stations have been developed till 2014-15,” he had said in Lok Sabha during Question Hour.
