 India's first female wrestler Sakshi Malik got engaged to Satyawart in October last yearNew Delhi: Ace Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, who made the country proud by winning a Bronze medal at Rio Olympics 2016, entered a new phase in her life as she tied the knot with Satyawart Kadian in Rohtak on Sunday.

Sakshi, who created history by becoming India’s first female wrestler to win an Olympic medal, got engaged to Satyawart in October last year.

Sushil Kumar, who had won medals in wrestling during the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, attended the wedding.

Sakshi had earlier shared photograph of her mehedi ceremony on social media.

Satyawart, 22, is two years younger to Sakshi and trains at his father’s akhada in Rohtak. Satyawart clinched a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He also won a bronze at the Asian Championships in the same year.

In 2016, Malik became first woman wrestler from India to win an Olympic medal after she pulled off a sensational 8-5 victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova in the play-off bout.

She also became only the fourth Indian grappler to win a medal in the Olympics. Before her Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav, two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt had won medals for India.

Malik carried the Indian flag at the closing ceremony of Rio Olympics.
