Rift in Bihar's 'Mahagathbandhan': Sonia calls Nitish, Lalu, urge them to keep alliance intactNewDelhi: In an attempt to save the ‘grand alliance’ in Bihar, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday called up Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, reports said.

The ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in Bihar, comprising of JD(U), RJD and Congress has been jolted, ever since serious corruption charges cropped up against Lalu and his family members including, Dy CM Tejashwi Yadav, Rabri Yadav and Misa Bharti.

Lalu Prasad, his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi and their son Tejashwi Yadav have been named accused in a CBI case related to the transfer of three acres of prime land in Patna to the family by two businessmen allegedly in return for licences granted to run IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri when the RJD chief was the Railway Minister.

It is being learnt that Sonia urged both the leaders to keep the alliance intact.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar had asked RJD leader and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav to come clean on the corruption charges.

Tejashwi Yadav has dubbed the corruption charges against him a “conspiracy” hatched by the BJP brass.

The RJD, which has 80 legislators, is adamant that Tejashwi Yadav will not resign.

However, making party’s stand claer, JD(U) spokesperson Ajay Alok said: “After an FIR is filed, one has to reply to the court and the public. Running the Mahagathbandhan is the responsibility of everyone.”

JD-U state president Vashisht Narain Singh said that his party was not satisfied with Tejashwi Yadav’s reply to corruption allegations against him.
