PM Modi urges citizens to make ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ a celebration in every home

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called on citizens to throw themselves into the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, asking that the initiative be turned into a celebration in every home in the run-up to Independence Day.

Posting a video about the campaign on Instagram, Modi asked people to carry the spirit of patriotism into their own homes by taking part in the nationwide drive.
“Come, let us make #HarGharTiranga a celebration in every home,” he wrote.

The campaign, now in its fifth year

This year’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ runs from August 9 to August 17, in the lead-up to India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15. It calls on citizens to hoist the national flag at home and join in activities marking the Tricolour.

The official campaign website notes that 2026 is the fifth edition of the initiative. This year it carries a special theme the spirit of ‘Vande Mataram’ coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the national song.

The broader goal remains the same: deepen people’s connection with the flag and foster a sense of pride and unity. Tiranga Yatras and rallies are being held in cities and towns across the country as part of the celebrations.

Selfies With the Tricolour

Beyond hoisting flags, people are also being encouraged to take part online, uploading photos and selfies with the Tricolour to the official ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ website.

The idea is to pull in participation from every age group and make the flag a visible, everyday part of the Independence Day build-up.

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ was first rolled out in 2022 as part of the government’s Independence Day programming and has run every year since, urging citizens to bring the Tricolour home.
