PMO hand over files on Hindalco deal Coal to CBI

ManmohanNew Delhi: The office of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had handed over the document to CBI related to the allocation of coal block to Hindalco.

A CBI official told, “Yes, we have received some files from the prime minister’s office pertaining to the Talabira coal block allocation. We will examine these documents before going to further proceedings in the investigation.”

CBI officers also added, “At present, we are only examining the available documents. Once scrutiny is done, we may have to question some officials of the prime minister’s office who handled the coal allocation. Besides, interrogation of accused named in the FIR will also be done later.”

The PMO has already claimed that the allocation was done on “merit” and defended the allocation of coal block to Hindalco.

The CBI has claimed that the Kumar Mangalam Birla-promoted firm (Hindalco Industries) was granted “undue favour’ in allocation of coal blocks arising out of criminal conspiracy between the industrialist and the then coal secretary PC Parakh.

“I’m not above the law of the land. If there is anything the CBI or, for that matter anybody, wants to ask me. I have nothing to hide”, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while coming back from his visit of Russia and China.
