Tehelka Founder-Editor Tarun Tejpal, who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman journalist at a five-star hotel in Goa, has moved the Delhi High Court on Monday to seek an anticipatory bail. Tejpal’s lawyers are alleging that the Goa Police are showing undue interest in the case and have registered a suo-moto case against him.

As Tejpal is a resident of Delhi and the case has been filed in Goa, he is seeking interim protection from the arrest till the time he can approach a court which has jurisdiction in Goa for relief. Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury was quizzed by the Goa Police in Delhi on Saturday, and the team also collected all the correspondence related to the case. They also seized a hard disk from the Tehelka office in Delhi. Shoma Chaudhury’s grilling finally ended around 2 am on Sunday.

The police also recorded statements of the three witnesses, whom the complainant confided into and had marked on her mail in which she accused Tejpal of sexually assaulting her, for nearly four hours on Sunday morning. Police sources said to news channel that during interrogation the trio has corroborated the events mentioned in the aggrieved journalist’s email to Chaudhury. They have told the investigating team that they spoke to the management when asked about it, following the woman’s complaint.
