New Delhi: Congress leader Imran Masood has been produced in the Deoband court amidst heavy security as his supporters have created chaos outside the court. As fallout of Masood’s arrest, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi cancelled his scheduled visit to Saharanpur on Saturday.
Congress leader Raj Babbar said, The Congress has condemned Masood’s statement. I condemn the use of such language. This is a very unpleasant situation, where such words were used to threaten an anarchist. However, party leader Rita Bahuguna said that it was unlikely that “any ticket will be changed now,” though admitting that the party high command will look into all the aspects and then take a decision.
Distancing from Masood’s statament, UPCC President Nirmal Khatri said, the CD has been shown dates back to Dec 2013 when Imran Masood was part of SP. He was inducted into the Congress only on 8 March 2014. Congress is completely against such comments, but this particular incident cannot be associated with the party.
Launching an attack on Modi, Union Minister Kapil Sibal blamed him for creating a trend of such comments. Such statements should be made with stable mind; this trend was started by Modi himself. We should contest issue based elections. Our voters are intelligent people, they know what’s behind the mask, he said.
Masood was arrested on the intervening night of March 28 and 29 from Saharanpur after he was seen threatening to chop Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi into pieces.
