New Delhi: RLD chief Ajit Singh has called a ‘mahapanchayat’ at his residence at 12, Tughlaq Road in Delhi’s Lutyen’s zone on Tuesday to chalk out a strategy about converting his government bungalow as a memorial to his father and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.
The police have reportedly declared the ‘Mahapanchayat’ illegal, while security has also been tightened around the area. Several people were detained by police while they attempted to march towards the residence of the RJD chief, as per news reports.
Security has also been strengthened around Tughlaq Road ahead of the proposed mahpanchayat.
In view of the protests over the issue, Delhi Metro also shut down its Race Course Metro station near Tughlaq Road at Yellow Line, which runs between Jahangirpuri in north Delhi and HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon.
The controversy started after Singh was asked to vacate his official bungalow at Tughlaq Road after he lost Lok Sabha elections in May earlier this year. He will now shift to a three-bedroom house in south Delhi.
The government had disconnected the water and power supply of his residence after he refused to vacate the premises. Meanwhile, reports say that he will now shift to a three-bedroom house in south Delhi, even though he is still insisting upon a memorial for his late father.
